The family of Gloria West Wheeler are grateful for her presence in their lives and have joy that her journey with Alzheimers is over. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, November 22, 1924 and moved to New Bern, NC when she was 13 years old where she remained until her death on Sunday, November 20, 2016, two days short of her 92nd birthday. The family of Gloria West Wheeler are grateful for her presence in their lives and have joy that her journey with Alzheimers is over. She was born in Baltimore, Maryland, November 22, 1924 and moved to New Bern, NC when she was 13 years old where she remained until her death on Sunday, November 20, 2016, two days short of her 92nd birthday. She was the daughter of the late James Milton West and Myrtle Rodgers West of New Bern.

She is survived by her husband of 65 years Oliver Gray Wheeler, Jr.; two sons Oliver Gray Wheeler, III and wife Melinda Blanchard Wheeler, and James Milton West Wheeler and wife Susan McGuirl Wheeler, all of New Bern; four grandchildren also survive, Oliver Gray Wheeler, IV and wife Leigh Brantley Wheeler of Raleigh, Laura Wheeler Clark and husband Russell MacKenzie Clark of New Bern, Andrew West Wheeler of Park City, Utah and Erin Elizabeth Wheeler of New Bern. In addition, her four great-grandchildren Caroline and Charlotte Clark of New Bern and Cecilia and Gray Wheeler, V of Raleigh.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Cedar Grove Cemetery, George Street, New Bern, with the Rev. Lloyd E. Griffin officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of Gray and Melinda Wheeler, 4513 Tenella Road, New Bern.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to First Presbyterian Church, Building Fund, 400 New Street, New Bern, NC 28560.
