Katheryne Anne Black-Van Ord, 58, passed away on September 27, 2017, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, after a courageous battle with melanoma.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Black; maternal grandparents, Pearl and Brown Davis; paternal grandparents, Eva and Nick Black, all of Morristown, TN. Katheryne Anne Black-Van Ord, 58, passed away on September 27, 2017, at the Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro, NC, after a courageous battle with melanoma.
She was preceded in death by her father, David Black; maternal grandparents, Pearl and Brown Davis; paternal grandparents, Eva and Nick Black, all of Morristown, TN. Kathy was the daughter of Imogene and David Black, born December 20, 1958, in Morristown, TN. She was a 1977 graduate of Morristown East High School. Kathy married Steven Van Ord on April 9, 1999, in Havelock, NC. She worked as a financial analyst for the Naval Clinic at MCAS, Cherry Point, for 25 years. She retired June 30, 2017, after 32 years of government service.
Kathy was an active and devoted member at Cherry Point Baptist Church. She truly lived life to the fullest and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Steven Van Ord; daughters, Kelly Titus and husband, Ryan; Emilly Van Ord; grandchildren, Kylie, Natalie, Cameron, Sadie, and Llewyn, all of Havelock, NC; mother, Imogene Black of Morristown, TN; sisters, Debbie Martin (Craig) and sons, Zachary and Adam of Landenberg, PA; Lisa Black (Shay Brammer) and son, Bailey of Glade Hill, VA; brother, Nick Black (Lisa) and daughters, Leslie and Amy of Whitesburg, TN.
The family will receive friends at the Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern on Sunday, October 1, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Her services will be on Monday, October 2, Cherry Point Baptist Church, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
